It’s the filling that counts

The filling is perhaps the most important component of our maternity and nursing pillows – it determines how well a pillow is suited for the respective purpose, but also how breathable it is, the durability, price and much more. As a genuine specialist for breastfeeding pillows, we offer you the choice of 4 different fillings. Each filling we offer has its special advantages and areas of application, but also certain disadvantages to some extent which we do not want to conceal. Our favourite is the Original EPS micro bead (bead diameter 0.5-1.5 mm), which we would like to recommend to midwives for equipping their practices and instruction rooms, as well as to pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

Fillings for Nursing Pillows

1. EPS Beads

In our opinion, there is nothing better for filling pillows used during pregnancy and breastfeeding! It is also the top-selling and optimum filling material for good reasons. It is durable, hygienic, anti-allergic and inexpensive. Excellent heat and moisture transport as well as its special lightness and the unequalled adaptability and pressure distribution make it the ideal aide. We offer EPS beads in two different qualities depending on need and application:

1a. EPS Micro Beads
(ø 0,5 – 1,5 mm)

  • Noiseless & as fine as sand
  • High durability

The finest filling 0.5 – 1.5 mm is cuddly like sand, but nevertheless as light as a feather. Ideal for daily use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Especially pregnant woman love this particularly noiseless filling.

Material: 100 % polystyrene

 

1b. EPS Rehab Beads
(ø 01,5 – 2,5 mm)

  • Good breathability
  • High durability

This robust filling with a diameter of 1.5 – 2.5 mm is excellently adaptable, however, it is distinctly heavier and somewhat coarser than the original micro-beads. Due to the larger gaps, the breathing characteristics are improved, e.g. beneficial for long-term patients. Another problem is that the heavier filling slowly loses its volume when subjected to heavier use, e.g. during change of position.

2. Polyester Hollow Fibre

  • As soft as down
  • Noise free

Especially high-quality hollow fibres for professional long-term use. The patented high-tech fibres have a down-like, soft feel and are absolutely noise-free.

3. Spelt

  • Highest possible breathability
  • Good heat transfer

The pure natural filling is cleaned several times and heat treated. A somewhat higher maintenance cost and a shorter lifetime of the filling has to be taken into account, in order to enjoy a real natural bedding material. Also, this filling is not always recommendable for allergy patients. Special advantages are, however, even better breathability and moisture absorption. The higher weight of the spelt pillow can also be an advantage in many bedding applications.

4. Thera-RHOMB

  • Adaptable and highly point-elastic
  • Robust and easy to maintain

This filling offers a perfect alternative for daily care-sector usage thanks to its combination of rhombic polyurethane foam and EPP-beads. Thus the filling assures a high and point-elastic adaptability it is robust and easy to maintain.

Material: Polypropylene-polyurethane mixture

5. Thera-Flakes

  • Optimal supportive combination of softness and adaptability
  • Exclusively for our breastfeeding rolls

Many people already know our pearly Theraline heroes from our large pregnancy and breastfeeding pillows. To make the small, practical breastfeeding rolls softer and puffier, we add high-quality foam sticks to the micro-beads. The result is a unique, optimally supportive combination of softness and adaptability. And, of course, 100% free of harmful substances.
